“Mario had a rare heart condition from birth that mimicked asthma. We wouldn’t know until he collapsed a third time while preparing for track. The EMTs thought he was dehydrated, but as a mother, I knew something was wrong. Mario had 30-40% heart function, with heart attacks every day of his life. His next option was receiving a heart transplant. After four days on the waitlist, we received the call: Mario would be blessed with a new heart, an opportunity to continue living a life of purpose.
We are truly grateful for the opportunity to share Mario’s story, the importance of advocating for yourself and loved ones, and more importantly, the blessing that comes from saying ‘yes’.”
