Native American Heritage Month Land Acknowlegement

The leaders, staff, and ambassadors at Network for Hope, acknowledge the land we gather on today are the ancestral lands of several Indigenous Nations, including Cherokee, Chickasaw, Lakota, Dakota, Shawandasse Tule, Hopewell culture, Osage, Adena culture, Choctaw, Myaamia, Mingo, and Kaskaskia. These Indigenous nations were the original stewards of this land, caring for it for countless generations before European settlers arrived, and caused the forced removal from their lands.

We honor the indigenous people, their ancestors, and their tribal nations who lived on this land and continue to live here today.

As a step toward honoring the truth and achieving healing and reconciliation with those Indigenous peoples who were affected most by the Doctrine of Discovery and broken treaties, we acknowledge the ancestral lands on which we now stand, and on which the cities we reside were built upon.

We recognize the ongoing work of Indigenous communities to sustain their connection to this land and acknowledge the history of displacement and erasure they have faced.

We commit ourselves to the work of understanding, respecting, and supporting Indigenous sovereignty, cultural heritage, and environmental stewardship as we strive for justice and reconciliation.
