Working as a nurse on a transplant team for 20 years, I get to see somebody go from being chronically ill, in and out of the hospital, not living to their fullest; and then they receive a kidney transplant, and now can do the things they wanted to do.

I have taken care of toddlers who started day-one of birth on dialysis and seen how transplants allow these kids to grow, develop and learn. Whereas, when they are on dialysis, they can’t develop their full capability for cognitive and behavioral growth. Getting someone in kidney failure off of dialysis because of a transplant gives them back both quality and quantity of life.
