Moe Adkins, Cornea Donor

On November 27th, 2023, my life was shattered. I lost my world after 15 years being side by side with him. He loved outdoors, our grandson Braiden, and most of all he loved doing things for others.

At 9 am that morning we’re had just got a call to remove his brother from life support after long battle with cancer. That alone killed him in side because it was his only brother and they were close. Later that night around 8 pm we meet his sister and niece in his brothers apartment to decide what needed done. His brother had asked that when he passed his niece whom helped him a lot get his big screen TV. Everything went great we all laughed, joked so on. It was getting late and we all decided to leave get some rest. 10:07 pm walking out the main doors of the apartment building Moe fell straight back onto my feet and I fell to my knees screaming my baby was gone. He had died instantly knowing nothing.

I knew he was a donor but until I got the call from the donor center at 1 am I had forgotten with so much going through my head. This is always what he wanted to die, with no knowledge it was coming, and be able to give to someone what he could never use again. I am sure he is smiling down happy and proud that someone got use out the one thing he complained about most which was his eyes. He always said I can’t see anything and in reality his eyes was better than the rest of him.

I hope everyone marks that donor spot on license because I never could tell they took anything from him I still got proper funeral and burial. Just got some extra comfort knowing parts of him helped someone and gave them a new beginning on life.

She lives in Shelbiana, Kentucky.
