In 2013, I contracted a severe fungal infection in my eye. The pain was so intense that I couldn’t do anything and quickly began to lose my vision. My only option to live pain free was to receive a corneal transplant. I was able to get my full vision back with no pain in the eye because of my surgery at the Cincinnati Eye Institute.
I am very thankful for the cornea that I received, so thankful for my donor. Although I don’t know anything about my cornea donor, my donor gave me my vision back and because of their gift I was able to go back to my everyday life indoors and outdoors without pain. I have also been able to travel and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Although I have recently retired as a circuit court clerk at a local license bureau in Northern Kentucky, I never thought that one day someone’s “YES” to organ, eye and tissue donation would change my life in such a profound way. In fact, it was as circuit court clerk that I became aware of LifeCenter and their positive role in the community, in addition, to the importance of people saying “YES” to organ, eye and tissue donation. I hope in the next 40 years that everyone on the waiting list can receive the transplant they need to live and heal.
